Spring Cleaning

What to toss, what to store, and what to buy this season.

With Spring in full swing and Summer on the way, we love a good Spring clean. And with many of us still working from home, we're all craving a super clean, clutter-free environment for work/life. If you've already done an edit of your wardrobe and your kitchen cabinets, how about tackling that medicine cabinet or vanity area? Here's what to toss, what to store (and a couple of products to clear space for) as the warmer weather hits.

What to toss:

Much like food, skincare has a shelf life. Using products that are expired can cause irritation or breakouts as they can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Check your SPF products for an expiration date and know that opened cosmetic products last anywhere between 6 months to 24 months. while unopened products can last up two to three years if stored properly in a cool, dry place, so you may want to rethink your product storage situation. Only SPF or acne over-the-counter products have expiration dates, while other products are clearly marked with this symbol which indicates a PAO or point after opening date. Pro tip: Products in jars, eye creams and serums generally have a shorter PAO.

Another rule of thumb (and speaking of thumbs), wash your hands before applying your skincare. Since we are all washing our hands more than ever, know that being diligent about handwashing is not the only key to staying healthy but also helps to keep your products clean and free of contaminants especially if you are dipping your fingers into jars of product.

And if you're hesitant to throw away that beauty splurge that didn't quite work for your skin, don't think twice. Use the same rules for skincare as for those stilettos that hurt your feet and are sitting rather forlornly in the back of your closet. If you haven't used a product in a year, chances are you never will. Into the bin, it goes.

What to store:

In the warmer, more humid months, you may want to lighten up your routine and stow the heavy-duty serums or moisturizers. Just keep them somewhere cool and dry and sanitary.

What to buy:

If you've cleared your cabinet and are ready for some new products for Spring/Summer, we've got you covered.  Because SPFs have a definitive expiry date and the sunscreen actives should always be used at their most potent, we recommend to always restock sunscreen in the Spring especially if you plan to be outside more.

We love our brand new Super-C SPF 30 Vitamin C Moisturizer, a multitasking moisturizer that's your daily SPF and your skin-transforming moisturizer in one. Brighten and restore radiance and go for glow while nourishing and protecting your skin. It's like safe sunshine in a jar. Pair with our Super-C Retinol Brighten & Correct Vitamin C Serum for your best and brightest skin yet.

And investing in some extra SPF is a safe bet this season. We've got a full lineup of SPF products that are your daily defense plus a whole lot more. Our FULL SCREEN™ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Collection of Octinoxate free sunscreens  are formulated to protect against UVA/UVB rays and environmental and blue light pollution. Available in three finishes suitable for all skin types and tones, you'll love our take on this skincare staple.

And if you need a new eye product, our Peptight™ 360˚ Tightening Eye Serum is powered by peptides for visibly lifted, tighter, and brighter eyes. Plus, we love the cooling applicator that gently massages and depuffs to reinvigorate and cool during the warmer months.
