Skincare’s fresh picks for Spring:

What’s blooming and in our sights for the season

One of the most fun things about a new season is discovering new ways to refresh your routine or breathe new life into your existing line-up. And with Spring upon us, we thought we’d share some trends in our sights as we welcome the warmth and golden afternoons.

In our sights: Next Gen SPF

Let’s face facts. Though there are many factors affecting skin function and aging, the science of epigenetics (how lifestyle and environment impact how we age) is crucial for understanding skin health at every age. If we looked at life a few millennia ago, early humans had one light source: the sun. But in modern times, we have light of every variety and type. Blue light is one of the newest known to affect skin health and cause skin damage.

Your smartphone, flat-screen TV, laptops, tablets, and LED and fluorescent lights emit blue light, high energy concentration, and short wavelengths. Sunlight (or white light) has most of the colors on the spectrum but is also our most significant source of blue light. Blue light is essential to regulate our Circadian rhythms; it helps us stay alert and supports cognitive function. However, too much blue light can strain eyes, disrupt sleeping patterns, and cause premature aging of the skin.

SPF is crucial in preventing premature aging, but UV rays are just one source of environmental damage to the skin. Aggressors like pollution and long-term blue light exposure can also contribute to skin damage and premature aging.  Studies show we clock more than 10 hours of screen time per day in this digitally obsessed world. So, if you can't cut back, fight back. The latest SPFs offer blue light protection and defense against UVA and UVB rays, thanks to modern skincare tech. We know it seems weird to put on sunscreen indoors but trust us — you’ll love all the skin-saving benefits it offers when you wear SPF inside.

Try our Full Screen™ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Clear Finish, which is excellent for minimal types. Or reach for Full Screen™ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 100% Mineral Sunscreen Vanishing Tint; it boasts a hint of tint for an even-toned finish.

In our sights: Mad for the Microbiome

A focus on science for facts and authority is trending around the world. By now, we know a healthy skin barrier helps us achieve the healthy skin we’re after, but the latest scientific skincare term-making news is the microbiome. According to Francine Krenicki, our VP of Product Development, “Your skin is a living biological organ. Though it may sound a bit scary, we’ve all got living things on our skin all the time, and each of us has our fingerprint and ratio of unique bacteria. Each microbiome profile is different based on lifestyle, diet, living, and climate difference”. We’ve seen this microbiome moment take root in probiotics, those supplements, and ingestibles to help achieve healthy gut health. The same principles can be applied to your skin.  Krenicki notes, “you want your skin microbiome to be healthy. If your good bacteria gets depleted, bad bacteria can grow, leading to out of whack skin and general skin problems like eczema or chronically irritated skin- the trick to healthy skin is getting the balance right between good and bad bacteria.” Look for the microbiome to be a sophisticated part of skincare launches in the year ahead.

We recommend our NEW Super-B Barrier Strengthening Oil, the evolution of barrier care, and the ultimate indulgence and first-of-its-kind prebiotic oil.  We refer to this premium product packed with Vitamin B3 as "yoga for the skin" as it's formulated to bolster both the skin barrier and the microbiome to target premature signs of aging while visibly reducing redness for a healthier-looking complexion. Skin is nourished, calm, and balanced. Used alone or mixed in with your moisturizer in the morning and evening, we love how a face oil feels ultra-nourishing.

In our sights:  The New Niacinimide

As many look to streamline their routines (see the below skinimalist trend), look for ingredients that can add and deliver better results. Niacinimide is one such ingredient. Niacinimide soothes the skin, supports a healthy skin barrier, and is excellent for all skin types, and our take on this multitasking superstar is miraculous.

In our sights: The new neckline

With so many of us seeing ourselves on screen and taking note of our necks, look for neck and jaw care to be front and center in influencer skincare routines and beyond. And when it comes to the skin beneath the chin, we consider ourselves category experts.

As leaders in the neck care category, we are here to help with a common problem in our digital-first world: Tech Neck™. This repetitive movement of looking down at your device over time deepens horizontal creases and causes a loss of definition to the jawline. Give this delicate skin the clinically proven care it needs with TL Advanced™ Neck Cream PLUS, formulated to visibly smooth, lift, and tighten for healthier-looking skin.

So what are the critical signs of Tech Neck™?  Look for the formation or deepening of horizontal creases on the neck, an increase in the number of neck lines, and a loss of definition along the jawline.  And if you want to get that neck in check, our NEW Peptight™ Tightening Neck Serum Roller will help you roll into a new routine.  This peptide-powered serum is clinically proven to improve the appearance of horizontal neck lines, sagging, and skin texture. This perfect pick-me-up is a luxe, lightweight serum with a cooling massager that provides a bit of refresh while working on those neck lines and jawline definition and helping to improve the visible effects of blue light.

In our sights: Skimimalism

From Marie Kondo to reassessing what matters when sustainability is top of mind, look for a focus on products that speak to "more than one" solution. Whether it's a serum/oil hybrid or a one-stop Retinol product, think one and done for a weary consumer looking to save their skin and save some money and the planet. Take our new all-in-one daily moisturizer, Advanced Retinol Daily Repair Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It combines the protective power of Broad Spectrum SPF 30 and antioxidants with the corrective power of Retinol to visibly correct multiple signs of aging. It's hydrating, cast-free, and gentle enough for daily use right from the start. It is clinically shown to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, texture, firmness, elasticity, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and radiance.
